Small and handsome

« I spent most of this last week at the Connecting ‘07 conference in Nob Hill, San Francisco. It’s the biggest industrial design gathering in the entire world, and one thing really stuck out to me: HP’s really starting to develop some design game, and Apple’s once-market leading Mac designs are really starting to look creaky.

This all points up a major consequence of Apple’s tremendous focus on the iPhone and the iPod family — the entire Mac line-up is looking dull. The iMac has a new look, but the overall form is unchanged from the version introduced in 2004. »

From Cult of Mac.

During our recent trip to the U.S., Ed and I saw some pretty sweet laptops, tiny, light and handsome. Now that I’ve switched to an iMac, I don’t want to buy a Windows machine. But I need a new laptop and I would love something ultra portable. Can’t Apple come up with something like this little guy soon?

  1. I should be getting my new Toshiba Portege R500 (for work) any day now….. I’ll let you know how it is.

  2. I’m jealous but that means I’ll get a chance to play with it, right? Will I ? Please please please!

  3. I played with a Toshiba Portege R500 at FutureShop recently. It’s insanely light. It doesn’t even seem real.

The only problem was that every time I’d pick it up and do the up-and-down thing, I’d get some kind of screen warning from the hard drive.
